LIMITED EDITION LP
The first vinyl reissue in more than 40 years! Includes the iconic protest song and title-track, which hit #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in September 1965. “Eve of Destruction” was recorded by McGuire with the original composer P. F. Sloan on guitar, Phil Spector’s Wrecking Crew members Hal Blaine (who played with Frank Sinatra and The Beach Boys, among many others) on drums, and Larry Knechtel (who played with The Doors and Simon & Garfunkel, among many others) on bass. The song would be covered by countless artists (The Turtles, Johnny Thunders, The Pretty Things, Public Enemy), and was also featured on the soundtrack to the film Good Morning Vietnam, among other anti-war movies and TV shows. A dominating hit single, it charted higher than any protest song written by Bob Dylan (McGuire covers two of Dylan’s songs on this album: “She Belongs to Me” and “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”). Beauty is relative. So is warmth and hate – the songs of P. F. Sloan have beauty, warmth and hate, for they speak of life. The voice that sings these songs is a gentle voice; a warm voice; a voice of life. The voice belongs to Barry McGuire, a young man of Irish extraction with the build of a lumberjack, a mass of unruly blond hair and a face which shoots in fifty directions when he smiles. His was the deep, sandpapery voice you heard on the big Christy Minstrels hit, “Green, Green.” His is the same voice you hear on one of the biggest hits of 1965 – the much-discussed “Eve of Destruction.” 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP- 1000 COPIES ONLY.
