NEWLY DISCOVERED TOKYO QUARTET PERFORMANCE. ALL TRACKS PREVIOUSLY UNISSUED.
Elemental Music presents a complete previously unissued quartet performance by the great Dexter Gordon. This astonishing concert marked Gordon's first appearance ever in Japan, backed by an all-star rhythm sections consisting of Kenny Drew on piano, Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass, and Albert ""Tootie"" Heath on drums. The album includes a 16-page booklet containing special essays by famed jazz producer Michael Cuscuna & by Dexter's widow, Maxine Gordon and is presented simultaneously on vinyl and CD (the CD version contains 2 bonus tracks*, also previously unreleased).
“Jazz fans the world over love discoveries of previously unreleased gems, hidden in storage rooms and vaults, unmarked and covered with dust. Elemental is finding a way to share these treasures with us. They have discovered a concert with Dexter Gordon at the Yubin Chokin Hall in Tokyo, Japan, on October 1, 1975. It was his first trip there. From this beautiful recording we know that the audience (the hall seated 1,582 people) was very enthusiastic and that the band was in very good shape.” MAXINE GORDON
