Released by Motown in 1972, The Temptations’ Solid Rock features vocals by Dennis Edwards, Melvin Franklin, Otis Williams, Damon Harrys, and Richard Street. It was the first LP recorded by the group without the original lead singers Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams. While Williams kept a low profile while talking about The Temptations (he appears on this LP only on “It’s Summer”,) Kendricks and ex-Temptations David Ruffin openly criticized the direction the group was taking. Thus, produced Norman Whitfield issued the single "Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)," as a way to make a statement.  The album’s third single, "Take a Look Around," was a Top 30 hit.
