ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM – URUBU
Released in 1976, Urubu represented a bold shift for Antônio Carlos Jobim, moving far from his bossa nova roots into more experimental territory. Produced and arranged by Claus Ogerman, the album explores complex structures, dissonant strings, earthy percussion, and atmospheric wind sounds.
The opening track, Bôto, features Jobim singing in Portuguese alongside Miúcha, introducing the album’s more adventurous character. The second half moves further into orchestral and classically influenced territory, with Ogerman’s imaginative arrangements creating a darker and more introspective atmosphere. Far removed from the world of The Girl from Ipanema, Urubu reveals a deeper and more experimental side of Jobim.
This special gatefold edition includes the complete lyrics and restores the original artwork. An important chapter in Jobim’s discography, Urubu showcases his willingness to explore beyond the traditional boundaries of bossa nova and Brazilian popular music.
