The debut album by soul singer, songwriter and producer Smokey Robinson after his departure from The Miracles. Smokey was released on June 19, 1973, on Motown's Tamla label and features the hits 'Holly', 'Silent Partner in a Three-Way Love Affair' and 'Baby Come Close', Robinson's first solo hit. Smokey peaked at number 70 on the Billboard Albums chart, on which it spent 19 weeks. AllMusic reviewer Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave it four stars, stating that this is 'A transitional album, and a fascinating one at that, suggesting the path Robinson would take going forward.
