Gatefold LP
Elemental Music presents a gatefold 180 gram LP reissue of Getting’ Down to It, one of the most personal albums by the Godfather of Soul, originally released in May 1969 by King Records. This masterpiece is considered by many as one of the diamonds in James Brown’s discography. It consists of standards sung in the jazz ballad style of Frank Sinatra, whom Brown greatly admired. In addition, two of Brown’s own compositions are included, “Cold Sweat” and an instrumental version of “There Was a Time”, both reinterpreted in the same style. Brown’s taste for jazz culminated in this sensational album, on which he is backed by the Dee Felice Trio. The results are swingin’ – it’s a brand new bag! “A ballad album that could scare the shades off Ray Charles” (Robert Christgau).
