Xanadu Master Edition CD
Recorded live in Tokyo, in April 1976, on the first Xanadu tour of Japan, this album presents alto saxophonist Charles McPherson at his best, accompanied by Barry Harris, Sam Jones, and Leroy Williams. Bird’s music was very much in evidence on this tour, and particularly on McPherson’s set at Nakano Sun Plaza Hall on April 14. Live in Tokyo was a stellar followup to McPherson’s 1975 Xanadu debut, Beautiful! (which also featured Jones and Williams, plus pianist Duke Jordan).
